Granddaddy Purple

Granddaddy Purple, GDP, is the West Coast purple benchmark, introduced by Ken Estes in 2003. The nose is sweet grape and berry with a floral, almost wine-like depth. The flower is famous for its color: deep purple buds against orange hairs, dusted in trichomes. A classic that still anchors the purple shelf.

It reads heavy and relaxed, a full-bodied cut that settles the body and runs mellow. Most people find it dreamy and centered, an evening-leaning smoke. One of the strains that made purple a selling point.

GDP is a cross of Purple Urkle and Big Bud, pairing deep grape color and aroma with dense, heavy flower. If you like fruity, full-bodied purple cuts, it sits alongside Grape Ape and Purple Punch.
